Cat. #00146226: JOHN GUARE

Desirable, uncommonly early literary-themed 1949 first day cover, honoring Edgar Allan Poe, boldly signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen for inveterate collector Roger Harris in 1973, in the earliest days of Guare's career. Remembered for classic plays like "The House of Blue Leaves" (1971), "Two Gentlemen of Verona" (1972) and "Six Degrees of Separation" (1991), esteemed playwright and screenwriter John Guare has garnered multiple Obies, a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1991.
